Les Détraqueurs approchent, et cette fois, Harry doit compter sur ses amis. Du début à la fin, de la locomotive du Poudlard Express à la rive du grand lac de Poudlard, le jeu immerge dans l'univers Harry Potter.
En incarnant Harry, Ron, ou Hermione, le joueur affronte les gardes d'Azkaban, vole un Hippogriffe autour de tours, et explore Poudlard avec la carte du Maraudeur. Il apprend également des sorts permettant de figer des créatures, contrôler des dragons et conjurer un Patronus.
De nouveaux mini-jeux en mode coopération sont inclus, notamment la pêche au hippocampe volant et le club de duel.
